Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate effects of aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) on extending harvest season and storability in ¢¥Tsugaru¢¥ apples. When AVG (75 §·¡¤L^(-1)) was applied 3 times of 4, 3, and 2 weeks prior to the predicted harvest time (Aug. 25. 1998), preharvest drop was greatly decreased. When harvest of AVG-treated fruits was delayed about one month (Sep. 25), preharvest drop was a little increased, and fruit weight increased about 14%. During the delay period, flesh firmness, acidity, and chlorophyll content were decreased, while anthocyanin content was increased. Application of AVG remarkably reduced ethylene production of fruit at harvest and resulted in high flesh firmness and acidity. When AVG-treated fruits were stored at low temperature (0¡¾1¡É ) for 33 days, fruit quality tended to be maintained better than non-treated fruit.
